OUR COMPANY
Mr. Sebastián Ortiz Alcubierre began the business in 1922 in Tardienta, Huesca. All the documentation was lost during the Civil War. In 1939 after the war had ended, M. Andrés Ortiz Mendoza returned to manufacturing. There is documentation of this, which we present. It sold BARRAU fertilisers and later traded as UNION ESPAÑOLA DE EXPLOSIVOS SA while producing mixtures with peat and lignite for agriculture. In 1960, with José Miguel Ortiz (Abonos Ortiz Osés) leading the company, it continued selling these and other fertilisers in powder form. At that time, farmers used superphosphate, ammonium sulphate, potash and nitrates, each separately and at different times on their crops. The company was very successful selling thousands of tons of fertilisers in Aragon, Navarra, Rioja, Soria, Burgos, Lérida, Castellón and Valencia, as well as winning several fertiliser tenders from the National Institute of Colonisation for villages in Los Monegros: eg, San Lorenzo del Flumen, Sodeto, Curbe, Orillena, Montesusin, Valfonda and Frula. The company knew that by combining the 3 elements, N, P and K together, there was a synergism between them which increased crop growth. It then decided to produce granulated compound fertilisers of these 3 elements, thereby avoiding caking in storage and facilitating the spread on farms. It began to experiment and, using a large modified concrete mixer, came up with a good formulation and exceptional granulation for both CEN fertiliser (a NPK type) as well as BIOMULL, EKORGANIK and EKOLOGIK organic fertilisers. It was the first company in the world to make granulated organic fertiliser in pellet form. Numerous studies, research, testing and thorough analyses were done with varying mixtures of rock phosphate and potassium-rich rock, solid and liquid fertilisers, various acids, temperatures, time in the machine, bed depth, fluid bed granulation, Spherodizer granulation, Oil prilling, particle size, revolutions during granulation, drying and cooling, pressure, types of acidification, moisture and pH. It was found that identical formulas made with certain processes and with much less dosage gave much higher yields than others in corn, rice, citrus and tropical products, for example. Collaborations were made with numerous factories in Spain. In Europe: Setubal, Laon, Paris, Melum, Pithiviers, Marseille, Ludwigshafen, Krefeld, Mannheim, Wiesbaden, Martigny, and others. These processes were overseen by Dr V. Reppert (Switzerland), Dr Travis T. Hignett of the TVA in Alabama (USA), Chemische Werke Albert in Wiesbaden and others. In 1968, José Miguel Ortiz built a granulated NPK fertiliser plant in Lalueza (Huesca) with a mixer, granulator-ammoniator, and dryer-cooler with a 12 t/hour throughput. In 1970, he was asked to build an organo-mineral fertiliser granules factory in Barcelona, with a granulator-dryer-cooler in trommel of 20 t/hour. In addition, he was a consultant acting for the Barcelona City Council for waste incineration and composting plants, as well as for organic and mineral fertiliser companies Felipe Fuster, Aprusa, Aborgán, Abonorga, Adubos and Fertilmar, among others. From the early 1960s, noting that transport and granulation costs were increasing, it was decided to produce the same or similar formulations in liquid: CEN, FOLIKOPO, MAXIFRUIT, MAXIACTIV, BIOMAX, NPK fertilisers and the organic fertilisers EKORGANIK, EKOLOGIK and BIOMULL using the same procedures, stabilisers and optimal conditions required in granulation. Following continued research over 50 years in countless open-field trials, in cereals, vegetables, fruit trees, olive trees, vineyards, etc, it has been the case that, using a set of key procedures, a fertiliser can be produced with a tiny dose sufficient for a hectare.
TARDIENTA (HUESCA) YEAR 1967 //////////////// LALUEZA (HUESCA) YEAR 1969
A COMPLETE REVOLUTION IN AGRICULTURE. Initially, they were sold in 5L containers, then in 1L. After 25 years and currently in 140mL bottles and 3mL vials. Since 2011 it has begun to be commercialized a new fertilizer in containers of 20 litres. One container to fertilize 10,000 hectares (for large areas, Wheat, Olive trees, Almond trees, Walnut trees, Hazel trees, Vineyards, Sorghum, Oat, Rye, Barley, Sunflowers, etc.) This containers are manufactured to order. There are numerous NPK formulations manufactured for many different crops. Also, upon request, we can prepare specially formulated products for plants to resist frost, drought or attacks from viruses, bacteria, fungi, parasites or herbicide damage. This research was assisted by Drs R. Klemm and Holle of Pharma (Germany), Nobel Prizewinners Ochoa (Spain) and F. Jacob (France), Dr Schneider of Celamerck and Dr Brian Galloway of Polysciences, among others. In 1994, the company founded and began to trade as Berlin International Export, SL, and has traded under this name ever since. RESEARCH AND DISSEMINATION Research is and has always been a priority for the company. It has been involved in international biology and fertiliser symposiums in many locations, including the following: Ann Arbor (Michigan), Raleigh (North Carolina), Lisbon, Reims and Melum (France), Rome, Bologna, Berlin, Venice, Munich, Hamilton (Ontario) and Vancouver (Canada ), Ponta Delgada, Azores, Dresden (Germany), Istanbul (Turkey), Madrid, Barcelona, Zaragoza, Seville, Pamplona, Sant Feliu de Guisols (Gerona). It has exhibited in numerous fairs around the world: Hannover, Frankfurt, Nuremberg (Germany), Utrecht (Netherlands), Paris, Rennes, Angers, Clermont Ferrand, Montpellier, Agen, Lyon, Avignon (France), Sydney (Australia), Atlanta, Tulare, Jackson, Fresno, San Antonio (Texas), Georgia (USA), London, Stoneleigh (UK), Wells (Austria), Manzini (Swaziland), Lusaka (Zambia), Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), Budapest, Abidjan CM Riyah (Arabia), Athens, Thessaloniki (Greece), Paraguay, Gaborone (Botswana), Guayaquil (Ecuador), Windhoek (Namibia), Dakar (Senegal), Luanda (Angola), Verona, Cremona, Cesena (Italy), Antalya (Turkey), Brussels, Moscow, Poznan (Poland), Lisbon, Santarem (Portugal), Casablanca, Marrakech (Morocco), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Manila (Philippines), Hong Kong, Beijing, Shenzhen (China), Bankogk, The Cairo (Egypt), Johannesburg (South Africa), Dar Es Salaam (Tanzania), Bulawayo (Zimbabwe), Nairobi (Kenya), Tunisia, Algeria, Monterrey, Guadalajara (Mexico), San Jose (Costa Rica), Guatemala, San Pedro Sula (Honduras), San Salvador (El Salvador), Panama, David (Panama), Santa Fe de Bogota, Quito, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires (Argentina), Santa Cruz (Bolivia), Lima (Peru), Sao Paulo (Brazil ), Caracas, Valencia (Venezuela), Tokyo, Brno (Czech Republic), Tel Aviv (Israel), Skopje (Macedonia), Tehran (Iran) and Baghdad (Iraq). CEN, MAXICEN AND EKOCEN Berlin International Export is at the technological vanguard with its CEN, MAXICEN and EKOCEN fertilisers. It is a pioneer in microdosage fertilisers, which has revolutionised the fertiliser sector. Company awarded the
